Individuals capture attention and engross history, but the most revolutionary changes in Roman politics were the work of families or of a few men. […] His work done, the Dictator resigned. […] Such venturesome expedients are commonly the work of hot blood and muddled heads. […] The role of Caesar is evident and important no occasion, therefore, to exaggerate his work, in motive or in effects. […] But even now the work had much farther to go in so far as Italy was concerned: the Revolution had barely begun.
