Such articles as we can easily do without. […] But we love stories, or fictions, also. […] What we call his character. […] That shows that if we are wicked, we must try to be good, or we shall be punished; and that if we do not try we shall grow worse and worse, till we shall not care whether we are good or not. […] We cannot always know where we are safe, but we can almost always think before we act, and thus may prevent bad consequences of our own conduct.
