[…] The oracle of Apollo was consulted, and the Pythia declared that Orestes would not be delivered until he had visited the Tauric Chersonesus [Chersone′sus], and brought from thence to Argos, a certain statue of Diana, from the temple of that goddess. […] Such was the answer given to Crœsus [Crœ′sus], king of Lydia, when he consulted the oracle concerning the result of his expedition against the Medes.
