When the Israelites adopted the idolatries of Syria, the prophet Elijah reproves the worshippers of Baal by this derision, “Cry aloud, for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or per adventure he sleepeth and must be awaked.”
