At length the people went to their temple to consult the oracle. […] If any one was in doubt as to what he should do in time of trouble, or wanted to know something that was to happen in the future, he would go to one of these oracles, and offer up a sacrifice to the god, in return for which the oracle would utter words of warning or of advice. […] She would not believe the answer of the oracle. […] The wicked queen Ino saw her chance, and secretly bribed the messengers to pretend that the oracle had said that Phryxus and Helle must be killed. […] The king was so bewitched by Ino that he felt no grief at this answer, but ordered that the oracle should be obeyed.
