Neptune reigns in the sea, surrounded by the Naiades, who dance to the joyous shells of the Tritons. […] Neptune became enamoured of her. […] Neptune, father of the slain, cited Mars to appear before the tribunal of justice, to answer for the murder of his son. […] Neptune, as god of the sea, was entitled to more power than any of the other deities, except Jupiter. […] To the story of Neptune, may be attached the beautiful fable of Arion, the illustrious rival of Amphion and Orpheus.
